RAF Aircraft hatch mounted in Lead wood bowl

This is a military aircraft access hatch with original service stencils for DTD 585 and Hyd Oil. .
DTD is Defense Technical Department and 585 was the military grade for Hydraulic Oil.
It has the original dark Grey paint from the aircraft fuselage and interior has a grey/green paint.
There are pots on the grey paint where the oil has dripped and softened the paint.
There are no markings to confirm exactly what aircraft it came from.
The hatch is 4.5 inches diameter
The paint colors are from a 40's to 70's Royal Air Force (RAF) or Royal Navy (FAA) aircraft.

We have hand turned a bowl from a blank of solid Lead wood.

We have used the original holes to add a new aluminium hinge that we have rivetted on.
At the other end of the hatch we have replaced the Dzus fastener and carved a mounting hole into the bowl. This means that if desired the hatch can be secured using the working dsuz fastener.
The dzus can be turned with a coin or a flat screwdriver blade.

In its unsecured position the bowl still closes and can be opened easily.

The bowl can be used as a Vide poche/pocket tidy or for storing items.
The size of the bowl is 6 inches (15cm) in diameter and stands 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall.
The interior of the bowl has a 3.25 inch (8cm) opening and is 2 inches (5cm) deep.
The bottom has a brown leather base.

WW2 Spitfire wing aluminium part repurposed as Pen Rack

Original WW2 piece of aluminium from a Royal Air Force Supermarine Spitfire that has original part number and inspector stamps on it.
We have mounted it on a hardwood base ( Pink Ebony) that is shaped to match the original part. The wood is dense and strong and has the words Supermarine Spitfire etched into the front edge.

We have routed nine holes in the base to act as pen base holder.
The spitfire part is riveted and doweled above the base on two African Blackwood risers.

It can be used as a pen or tool rack. There are four small holes either side of a central slightly larger hole.

The part number stamped on it (30008) was used from the Mk1 onwards. The part number is 300 ( Mk 1) and 08 for bottom outer main plane/wing. This does not mean that it was form a Mk1 as the same part will likely have been used in later marks. The inspectors stamp ( HM&S/MM&S) is not easily recognizable but likely from a metalwork sub contractor.

We have no details on which machine this part was taken from.

It measures 38 cm wide; 4.7 cm deep and 8.2 cm tall.

Bowl made from an Airspeed Horsa relic mounted in Zebrano wood.

The Airspeed AS 51/AS 58 Horsa was a large troop carrying glider that was used extensively by the British in their invasion and assaults on Europe. They saw service in Sicily, Normandy and Arnhem

Browning M2 50 cal

In 2009 we were invited to a dig at a local RAF WW2 disposal site.

We found many items from T-6, P-51, Lancaster, B-25, P-BY, Oxford; Magister etc. a well as a few other pieces.

This is the retracting slide from a Browning M2 "Fifty Cal" that we pulled out of the hole in the ground. It had been underground for 70 years but it is from a wartime RAF aircraft.

We have derusted it, polished and blued it. We have mounted it on a beach wood board using two japanned screws. The lever still folds but the slider is static.

A very nice wartime relic from an allied aircraft. Due to its condition it is not considered a weapon.

The board measures 32 cm x 12.5cm.
It measures 32 cm long ( 1 foot) x 11 cm wide (4.5 inches)

B 24 Bowl

Original metal casting from a B-24 fuel tank filler.

This relic was a metal detecting find on a Royal Air Force airfield in the UK where post war surplus B-24 were scrapped.

These aircraft were built in the USA and flown to Europe and were being massed for use in Tiger Force - the Allied force preparing to fight Japan.

After Japan surrendered the aircraft were surplus to needs and disposed of in the late 40's.

This is part of the fuel tank filler cap that can be seen in the parts diagram. It was attached to part 19.

We have hand turned a bowl form a solid blank of Sycamore and created a space for the metal ring to sit.

It can be used as a Vide poche/pocket tidy or for storing small items.

The size of the bowl is just under 6 inches (15cm) in diameter and stands 2 inches (5 cm) tall.
